Letting Go & Beginning Again

This is the third time around for the front of this sweater. Many of you will remember the time Spud ate my knitting, causing me to have to restart the front all over again. I've had to start it yet a third time because I cast on the wrong size when I decided to recommence it.
I tell you, I've wondered whether this sweater is cursed!
Hiccups aside, I'm making speedy progress on it now, and nothing has gone wrong with this third attempt at the front. I'm determined to get this jumper finished and ready to wear when the first cold days of Winter arrive.

.....................................

Re-starting my Clara Bow Sweater after Spud ate it brings up a topic I've struggled approaching here on my Blog. I've thought about telling you all several times, but just haven't really known what to say. I thought about not saying anything at all, but know that there are some of you here that love hearing about the dogs and would wonder.

Due to circumstances I don't have the heart to discuss, Spud was put to sleep in the very beginning of January. In the end, heartbreaking as it was, our Vet agreed that it was the best thing we could do for Spud. It was the hardest decision I have ever had to make, and many tears ensued, but I knew then and know now that it was absolutely the right decision for not only him but us as well.

Rilla has missed having a canine companion both around the house and whilst out in the paddock working the sheep, and in light of the fact that I always dreamed of owning two Border Collies, a little chocolate Collie puppy will be arriving here in early May. I'm excited and nervous, and eagerly anticipate the day that I will finally have a team of two sheepdogs, and also a pair of loyal companions.

.....................................

I hope you've had a good weekend and have a good week.
Until next time, take care!

  1. Oh Sarah. I had no idea at all this had happened. I'm so devistated for you. This has really hit home. But at the same time I'm excited for the new arrival. As hard as it is to move on I really think it's the best thing possible. They're never a replacement but little bundles of fur and cuteness really demand us to move on which is a good thing. Can't wait to see pictures!!! xx

    1. Thanks so much Kristen :-) Leading up to the decision was actually harder than afterwards, but I think that's normal.
I'm excited for puppy's arrival too, have sent you some pics on FB xx

  4. Oh that is very sad news... it is always hard loosing a much love furry family member. I know you will grow to love your new puppy, just in a different way.
I too had a jumper that I started not three, but 4 times until it was finally finished... The problem now is I live on the Gold Coast and its doesn't get cold enough to wear it... Now I can't part with it, so it sits at the bottom of my cupboard! Liz xx

  5. Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. Dogs become part of the family and it's so hard when you lose one. I hope the puppy settles in well but be prepared for more yarn munching. We have a pup not quite a year yet and you wouldn't believe the amount of times that I've come home to Yarn wrapped aroundevery piece of furniture in the house! Only today he ate my dictionary! ! Little fart. He's so much fun though.

  8. Sarah, I'm so sorry to hear that you lost Spud. I just read about your new pup Bambi, and wondered that you hadn't mentioned Spud together with Rilla, and I wondered if something had happened. I read back to this post and now understand. How heartbreaking for you, especially when your heart was set on the two dogs. I'm so glad for you, however, that you now have this adorable Bambi to start again.
We had to have our first dog put to sleep for a very poor temper (he began biting, and eventually bit my son in the face). It was the first dog my daughter ever had, and it was the hardest thing to take him away from her. He was a rescue dog from the animal shelter where my daughter was helping to walk the dogs (she was about 8 or 9 then). We had professional help to try to train it out of him, and even passed him along to a family member with no young children in the house, but nothing worked. No one could tell us what had happened in the dog's early life that could maybe have helped us in understanding his behaviour. I was so glad that Cody has always been a trustworthy dog and so good with all children. My daughter and I drove to pick up Cody, and like you, she had him snuggled in a blanket on her lap all the long way home ;)

  9. Oh Sarah. :( I have just made it back to this post in my catch up and my heart breaks for you. I am glad that you and Spud had the joy that you did in the time that you had (I went back through your other Spud posts before leaving this comment). Big hugs.
