Of Cheddar & Pompoms

It's been a week of cooler rainy days. I just love rainy weather. It's perfect for getting things done. Everything is more pleasant to do when the temperate drops a little. Of course if it goes back to super hot weather, I'll try not to complain. The proper summer heat is what brings our summer storms. 

Amongst the regular routine, there are two things I have done this week that I consider worthy of writing about here. The first, is that I made my first block of Cheddar cheese. The photo above is of the curds just after they had been cut. Cheddar turned out to be a pretty time-consuming little cheese to make. I warned the curds when I was putting them into the hoop to be pressed that after 6 hours of cheese making, they'd better turn into a tasty cheese. The cheddar is now in the pantry, where it has to dry for up to four days before we'll slice it and put it into the cheese fridge to mature. We've only got to wait three months to find out how we went. (If indeed we make it that long! I give it a month, tops.)

The second thing I thought I would write about is my new knitting project.

 I've actually restarted work on my Clara Bow Sweater, but I made a mistake and felt the urge to cast something on that I could actually finish in a short amount of time. 

Hence my bright blue pompom hat. It's going to be a little bit quirky when it's finished, but I don't mind. I love pompoms, I love knitting fair isle, and something a little bit different is just what I need.

I'm having fun making it, thinking of what I'll be doing when I wear it, wondering how warm it will keep me, and also thinking of how best to photograph it when it's finished.
