"This project is about women from all walks of life, all over the world, joining hearts, and hand crafting a little square, symbolic of love and strength, and encouragement, and acknowledgement that we are all on this journey together."
The #littlesquaresofstrength project was begun by Fleur Lyon in Western Australia a few months ago. The support for this project was so large that the first blanket is already being sewn together, with squares for the second being sent now by crafters far and wide.
What is this project all about? It's about women being there for each other, helping and supporting one another. Your #littlesquaresofstrength will be stitched into a beautiful, love-filled blanket and sent to a privately nominated lady going through a tough time. You can read the full story here, and also grab the details if you want to participate in this awesome project or if you would like to nominate someone. You can participate from any where in the world, and send as many or as few squares as you like. Squares can be knitted, crocheted, sewn, stitched, weaved - anything really! Every square helps.
I knitted up the checked square above for the project, designed to fit the size specifications perfectly. I've put the pattern together as a free download on Ravelry too, so hop over and have a look!
This Picnic Check Square is worked in DK (8ply) and would look lovely in a whole range of colours.
I used this Australian cotton in mine.
