Knit Through Everything

Spring seems to finally be transitioning to warmer weather, with hot sunshine in the mornings and a breeze blowing most afternoons. I'm really enjoying the change, and my knitting projects have shifted with the seasons.
On my needles at the moment are socks, mostly because I seem to have become addicted to knitting them, but also because they are lightweight and therefore cool under my hands. They also fit nicely in my handbag, a definite perk as I've been taking my knitting out and about weekly for my craft day catch-up. I'm also teaching a sock knitting workshop in Bellingen in about 3 weeks, so it's hard not to have socks on my mind.

The other main project I'm working on is a summer top in the yummiest coloured 4ply organic cotton. The colour is called beetroot and I'm really loving how it's working up. It's also super soft.

The pattern is another one from the book Knit Vintage. The design is also a loose fit, and the chevron pattern is quite open and airy combined with the drape of the 4ply organic cotton - I'm looking forward to having it in my summer wardrobe.

I've been finding great joy and comfort in my knitting over the past weeks. There's been a lot of turmoil and stress happening, amongst those was the tragedy of Rilla passing away. If you've been reading this blog for any length of time you're probably familiar with her, and if you've been here since the beginning (when this blog had a different name), you might even remember her arriving as a puppy. She was only 6 years old, so her loss has been a massive shock and very heartbreaking.

The last photo I took of Rilla

I've always known that knitting helps me relax, and keeps me occupied when I might have nothing else to do with my hands. But it really is therapeutic, and meditative to do. And there are so many different things you can do with just one craft! If I want to talk while I'm knitting or I'm very tired, a plain sock is the perfect choice. If I want just a tiny bit of concentration but not too much, my summer top is perfect. If I really want all else to fall away and my knitting to be the only focus, trying a new technique or writing a pattern from scratch always works.

How about you?
Do you have something you can reach for when times are stressful? That brings you joy but also calmness?

I hope you are having a good week!

Sarah

PS In regards to the title of this post, I've a little book full of knitting quotes, and one of them is "Knit through everything, love through everything". The book is called the Little Book of Knitting Wisdoms.

PPS Yarn details: 'Beetroot' organic cotton 4ply can be found here and the nettle sock yarn I've knitted the fair isle sock in the first photo can be found here (colours are Heather & Dusty Pink).
