2018 Christmas Ornament Swap - Come Join!

I'm so excited to be hosting the Christmas Ornament Swap again this year! The very first swap, last year, was such a success and everyone had so much fun. I remember I had to close the swap sign-ups earlier than I'd intended due to the overwhelming response. The same may happen again this year, so if you want to join us, make sure you sign-up! All the details are below.

What is the Swap about?
The Christmas Ornament Swap is a fun swap for Australian & New Zealand knitters & crocheters. I have designed this swap to give us a way to have fun making a couple of ornaments and sharing our craft with other like-minded souls, without it being a big commitment or ending up taking up too much time. I wanted to provide a way for fellow crafters to have fun, get creating and maybe even make a new friend! The swap is supposed to be fun, relaxed and something that isn't too big to commit to, for time reasons as most of us are already a little bit busy coming up to the end of the year.

Who can join in?
This swap is for Australian and New Zealand knitters and crocheters to join. I've been asked a lot to include other crafts, but I'm afraid it would just make the swap far too big, and to my knowledge, there are already lots of swaps around for other crafts. And whilst I'd love to include the world, it just makes postage and timelines more troublesome.

When can you join?
Sign-ups for the swap are open from today and stay open until the 15th of October or until the swap gets full enough (whichever happens first. Last year it filled quickly!).

My lovely assistant, Megan, will be helping out with some of the swap emails this year, so you'll be hearing from either of us. You'll be emailed within 24 hours after you've signed up to confirm your registration and give you your swap badge. (You can share the badge on the side of your blog or post it on social media if you like).

You'll be allocated your partners on the 17th of October, and you'll also be emailed a handy 7-page guide with tips, the timeline and other things to make this swap as fun as possible (like a participant-only discount for my shop!).

What do you make?
This is an ornament swap. There were so many beautiful ornaments made last year! You are required to make 1-3 hanging ornaments or a small garland that can go on the tree.
Please don’t make large items such as toys or shelf ornaments as this swap is supposed to be for small decorations that can be hung from the tree or in other places around the house.

Making your ornament
Most ornaments can be made using oddments of yarn from your stash, however, swap participants will be given a special coupon code to use in my shop if would like to purchase some yarn specifically for your ornament. I'll also be putting together a small amount of Christmas themed yarn boxes as they were very popular last year (These will be available after the sign-up period).

It absolutely doesn't matter what your skill level is. If you're an absolute beginner at knitting or crochet, please join in any way! I've put together a Pinterest board full of patterns and ideas to help you along if you're stuck for an idea!

When you sign up you’ll be asked a few little details such as whether you like contemporary Christmas themes or traditional, etc. These will be given to your partner so that they know what to make you.

Secret Santa
I've decided to make this swap a Secret Santa swap. I thought this would make it more fun and also give you the opportunity to share the ornament/s you're making throughout the swap process on your blog or social media without feeling like you're spoiling anything. Of course, it would be super lovely if you include a letter about yourself and maybe your contact details (like your email address) in with your swap parcel so that you and your partner can get in touch with each other after the swap. Or you can stay completely secret, it's up to you!

This year the swap is running as a triangle swap - which means that you won't be receiving from the person you are sending to, but rather a triangle of 3 will make up the swap (i.e Sally sends to Jane, Jane sends to Martha and Martha sends to Sally.)

**Join here!**
When you receive your partner allocation details on October 17th you'll also receive the Swap Guide which includes all of the important dates, links to the Pinterest board, helpful tips and a discount code for my shop.

Spread the word
Let's make this swap as fantastic as it was last year! Spread the word by inviting your friends to the swap and sharing the link to this post on your blog or social media! We'll be using the same tag as last year - #saylittlehenxmasswap

If you have any questions about the swap do feel free to leave them in a comment below, or send me an email.

  1. This looks like fun Sarah, I've signed up. It was hard to choose a style, as I liked bits of all of them :)
