Yarn Along

Hello! How has your week been?
Mine has been filled with hot days, afternoon storms and book-buying activities.

This delightful book - Knit Vintage - arrived in the mail a day or two ago. It's crammed with gorgeous patterns for vintage and retro shirts, jackets, cardigans, a beret and even knitted stockings! The patterns have been based on knitting patterns from the 1930's, 40's and 50's - and so delightful are the pictures that this book even has me ready to try knitting on circular needles!

I've never truly been inspired to knit my own clothes before, but this book has managed to do it. The first pattern I selected to try was the Lacy Wristwarmers, and I'm so happy with the results so far. They're fun and easy to make, and look as though they'll turn out pretty perfect!
Once Autumn arrives and I have gotten a few other projects out of the way, I am going to try the Fair Isle Beret, which is knitted in the round, with the option to choose either dpns or circular needles. No pattern is ever going to tempt me to touch dpns again, so circulars it will be.

......................................

I'm joining in the the lovely Small Things' Yarn Along again today.

And here's a picture for those of you that were interested to see my finished garland.

I'm really happy with the end result, although it is the most dreadful thing to try and photograph! It's so bright and cheerful in the flesh, but it just seems impossible to capture that in a photo....for me, anyway!

Originally I was making this garland for my little shop, but when I hung it above my desk to photograph, I couldn't decided whether to sell it or keep it for myself. What do you think?

.......................
I hope you have been doing some pleasurable things this week!
Sarah xx

  1. Oh that looks like a gorgeous book. And i love the stitch and colour of the mittens that you're working. Very nice indeed.
Definitely leave it over your desk. The second that I saw the photo that is what popped into my mind!

  2. The garland is fantastic Sarah! I'm not sure but if it were me I would sooooo keep it! I absolutely love it! And the book you received looks very inspiring...I love everything from that time period. I still can remember the stories my grandmother would tell me about those days. No matter what, ladies always dressed nice even if they were baking bread in the kitchen! I will be excited to see some of your projects! You have inspired me to go off and paint! Have a lovely night!

  6. I do love that garland ... you MUST keep it (always keep your prototypes and make others to sell). The colours look pretty darned fine from where I'm sitting :) The book you've shown is so nice (love the colours they use for their projects). I was a bit discouraged when I tried dpns at first too, but have now got the hang of them, and enjoy knitting in the round (they're necessary for some of the tiny projects I make that are too small for circular needles). But to be honest, I start and rip out about 4 or 5 times whenever I start something new on dpns! Wendy

    1. I haven't the patience for undoing my knitting frequently I'm afraid!
I think I've decided to keep the garland, I like it too much to sell :-)

  9. Knit Vintage sounds like a great classic. Craft books are wonderful for inspiration aren't they.

We've had so much rain some farmers have lost livestock and have fields covered in mud and flood debris. Hoping we don't have a repeat over the next few days.

  10. Keep the garland, you can make another one for your shop. I love vintage fashion books! I have a few that belonged to my great grandmother, they are fabulous and so inspiring, but vey delicate: I can hardly touch them or they'll rip apart. Have a great week end!
