Above are pictures from Sunday and Monday. It's been almost constantly drizzling since Saturday. Just enough rain to make it cool and pleasant, and create a tiny bit of mud. It also overflowed the tank, which is good.
But last night, ah, last night we got proper rain! It bucketed. 78mms to be exact. And it was still raining this morning. We got another 10mm within half an hour, and now that has come up to 30mm. And it's raining still.
I'm so glad of this rain. After a bad season last year, we really need some decent rain this season. And I'm hoping that that might just be happening.
It's rained so much that waterfalls have appeared on the mountains. They look so pretty. Our dam has overflowed a lot, too, with more water still pouring into it and out of it. It's cut us off from the Bull's paddock, so we'll have to walk around the long way to check on them.
We've also got a Border Collie sized swimming pool in the corner of the yard. Rilla is in heaven. So am I. She'll be entertained for most of the day, leaving me free to take advantage of the cool weather with some knitting and quilting, in between swapping the washing from the machine into the dryer.
And here are the pictures of the dam overflow. Some of them are of what's going in to it, and others are of the crossing into the Bull's paddock, where excess water comes out of the dam. .
What's the weather like in your patch at the moment? I hope it's to your liking!
xx

Lovely rainy photos! SO dry and hot here at the moment...hopefully our turn for some rain soon :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you get some rain soon too! xx
DeleteI loved reading about your day and your photos are lovely. I live on the coast of South Carolina in the U.S. Today, we finally have some winter weather. The high for today was 47 degrees F. So far, our winter has been very mild. I look forward to reading more about your Australia. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThese pictures look absolutely amazing.

Loved the photos, we are in a drought here-so we could use some of that water-what is your dog's name?
ReplyDeleteoh, sorry I found her name-
ReplyDeleteNo need to apologize Kathy! :-)
DeleteI would love some of that rain. Our tanks need filling up and our gardens a very dry! xo
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are beautiful! I'm in Boston, and the weather is clear, but oh-so-cold!
ReplyDeleteJust found you through the Free Pretty Things link-up, and am now happily following along via GFC!
Hello and welcome Michelle! Thank-you for your kind words, xx
DeleteYour dog is beautiful! It rained here buckets for four days last week, my front yard looked like your overflowing dam! The crawl space under our house flooded and our heater stopped working b/c of it. We had to pump it all out and then it snowed! Gotta' love mother nature. Your pictures are great, poor turkey ;)
ReplyDeleteLovely photography, although I'm sorry your being flooded. I love the picture of the soaked Turkey. Found you via Free Pretty Things. Have a good week. :)
ReplyDeleteWe are in our dry season in SW Florida. We've had no rain in quite some time and the wild vegetation is turning a bit brown. Your rain looks like ours during summer, except you have hills. Our area is very flat and sandy, so the rain soaks in until the ground is saturated and then it ponds where we grow a splendid (not!) crop of mosquitoes. I hope all that water doesn't pose a threat to you and yours?
ReplyDeleteNo, the water doesn't pose a threat. I think we'd have to get an awful lot of rain for it to worry us :-)

oh my ... we're in the midst of a drought in Texas. I would be that sopping wet turkey if I could! LOL
ReplyDeleteFound you through Grow Your Blog. Love the photos and all things handmade, and love seeing and meeting people from all over this world!
I bet Rilla is a smart pup! Smart and beautiful! You live in such a lovely area. We have mostly dust here. Dust that gets into everything. I do love a good rainstorm. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know you're welcoming all that rain! I always sort of dread heavy rainfalls in case something in the house starts to leak (we've had our troubles with both basement & roof in the past). I guess all your overflowing banks are far from the house. It certainly is LUSH with the soaking!! Our temps were -29'C overnight, 'warmed' up to '10'C today. Rilla is beautiful ... will she be allowed in the house all wet & muddy? Wendy
ReplyDeleteRilla is kept outside during the day, but at night she is dried and cleaned so that she can come in to sleep :-)

Rills looks so happy in her puddle - unlike the turkey, who looks rather grumpy at getting drenched!

Wow that is a lot of rain! It's a lovely sunny day today in Sydney
ReplyDeleteOh my....you did get the rain!!! It has been raining here too but really not that much! That is unbelievable the amount you got.
ReplyDeleteStay cozy and warm and thank you for your sweet comment on my book you left me. xoxo
Seems your weather is heading our way. As I child we lived on a farm up in the mountains and rain was always fun. Now that I live beside a large river on the flatter country, heavy rain is viewed with a cautious eye.
ReplyDeleteThe news said it was heading down south....hope your river stays within it's boundaries!

I'm guessing we are experiencing the same weather as you. It has been raining the last two days...so no swimming..but oh, so delightfully cool and good for doing other stuff! I'll enjoy it while it lasts!
ReplyDeleteI hate rain. It does something to my mood. But I love your dog! My mom has a mix pomeranian-border collie (go figure) named Pammy and I adore her. I hope spring will come soon!
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah Jane-
ReplyDeleteRilla is adorable. I have a Mini Aussie who loves to play in the rain puddles, or a water hose during the Summer.
Love the water pictures. Reminds me of when I was a kid out on our dairy ranch.
I also just realized you must be in the middle of Summer?
We (Northern California USA) are in the middle of Winter. The past few days have been drizzy and cool- around 50 during the day.
See you soon-
Becka @ Girasole Farm
Yes, we are right in the middle of summer here. Winter doesn't start until the 1st of July :-)

Look at all the beautiful rain. Our Border Collie used to love playing in the rain
